The yapang Emerging Art Prize is an acquisitive art prize developed to celebrate, promote and support emerging First Nations artists from across the country. Occurring every two years the yapang Emerging Art Prize is judged by a respected artist and curator.
Selected artworks will be exhibited at the Museum of Art and Culture yapang (MAC yapang) from 29 July – 17 September 2023. Exhibited artwork will be offered for sale at the price set by the artist.
Acquisitive Prize: Lake Macquarie City Council have committed $15,000 to enable MAC yapang to purchase the winning artwork at the price set by the artist. If funds allow selected highly commended artworks will also be purchased at the prices set by the artists for the collection.
The artist whose artwork wins the yapang Emerging Art Prize will be supported by MAC yapang to develop a body of work for a future exhibition. This may include an artist residency, curatorial mentorship and/or an exhibition.
Highly Commended Awards: NAVA premium plus membership for one year to the value of $316 each.
People’s Choice Award: $1000 prize for one winner. This is a non-acquisitive award to the artwork with the highest number of audiences votes over the period of the finalist exhibition.
