The Travelling Film Festival (TFF), Australia’s longest running travelling film festival, showcases Australian and international features, documentaries and short films in regional Australia. TFF currently tours to around 20 locations annually.
For 2023, the TFF is touring a curated program of some of the best films from the Sydney Film Festival, to Event Cinemas in Newcastle, from 23 to 25 June.
The program includes locally-produced film Three Chords and the Truth, from Newcastle-based filmmaker Claire Pasvolsky, featuring a local cast and made with a local crew. The Opening NIght gala will include a live performance from the stars of the film, Jackie Marshall and Maisie Owens, along with a filmmaker Q&A and a welcome drink. Short film Chum, from Screen NSW Screenability initiative also screens.
Other highlights include Rachel’s Farm by actor/director and farmer Rachel Ward and the festival favourite Riceboy Sleeps from Canada. Subtraction is a psychological thriller from Iranian filmmaker Mani Haghighi and Oscar-nominted EO, is also on the program.
Eco-thriller How to Blow up a Pipeline tells an explosive story and the sumptuous period drama Chevalier, starring Australian actress Samara Weaving, alongside a brilliant performance from Kelvin Harrison Jr. will unite passion, music and historical events into one glorious film.
Accomplished director Christian Petzold’s latest tragicomedy Afire ignites the screen and the debut feature I Like Movies from Canadian filmmaker Chandler Levack, is fresh from the Toronto Film Festival and has won hearts around the world.
